BlackPool Bulletin #16
We know that our troops need to be one step ahead of the markets, so our apes gathered the latest news about Play & Earn, NFTs, and Blockchain Games from the week.
A less turbulent week in the crypto gaming ecosystem, but the quality is still top notch. This week we're offering the Dune Analytics unicorn story, Aavegotchi introduced lending, Tiny Bones raised $9500 for Abbé Pierre, and Captcha Bot was NOT hacked, but the Ronin Network most certainly was.
Table of Contents:
- Paris Hilton is PAK

- Ronin Network hacked for $624M (yes, that's a lot, dad)
- How to play Aavegotchi with both security and a hot wallet
- The EU Parliament votes in favour of the regulation of "unhosted" wallets
- Why work in Web3, by The Defi Edge
- Verse - The Hyperexchange protocol
- The story of Dune Analytics
- Captcha Bot was NOT hacked
- The Guide to Transition to Web3 for Non-Technical Roles
1. Paris Hilton is PAK
PAkis Hilton.

That's it. Sorry, not sorry.
I am @muratpak.
— ParisHilton.eth (@ParisHilton) March 28, 2022
2. Tiny Bones raises $9500 for Abbé Pierre
The Avalanche based NFT project Tiny Bones raised 100 AVAX for the Abbé Pierre charity during the Non Fungible Auction in Barcelona! Well done!
Thank you very much @TinyBonesClub @BlackpoolHQ for the kind donation and solidarity action. The money raised will allow us to continue our actions towards the most vulnerable and our fight against exclusion. 🙏🤍🙏

3. Ronin Network gets hacked for $624M (yes, that's a lot, dad)
Biggest Hack in the History of DeFi, (yet) (tm)

The Ronin bridge has been exploited for 173,600 Ethereum and 25.5M USDC.
— Ronin (@Ronin_Network) March 29, 2022
The Ronin bridge and Katana Dex have been halted.
$650m gone in one shot on Ronin chain. « the attacker found a backdoor through our gas-free RPC node, which they abused to get the signature for the Axie DAO validator ». Is it the biggest hack so far in history of DeFi ? Rekt. https://t.co/wcgIvihuDR pic.twitter.com/D7NovLEW1w
— Julien Bouteloup - bneiluj.eth (@bneiluj) March 29, 2022
9 nodes network controlled by 4/9 multisig is nowhere near "decentralized".
— Marc -V3 is here!- Zeller (@lemiscate) March 29, 2022
Ronin hack is not a "DeFi" hack.
Decentralization and trustless ecosystems are important, today we have a costly reminder of this.
It looks like the Ronin hack was quite different from previous bridge hacks. The Ronin bridge is a 5-of-9 validator bridge, meaning the funds are secured by a set of 9 secret keys, any 5 of which can be used to move money around.
— smartcontracts 🔴✨ (@kelvinfichter) March 29, 2022
(I acknowledge this post; we are investigating and taking action if/where appropriate.)
— SBF (@SBF_FTX) March 29, 2022
The @Ronin_Network bridge attack marks the biggest crypto hack yet.
— WMP ⌐◨-◨ (@WPeaster) March 29, 2022
The culprit was experienced & may be using purchased CEX accounts to try and cash out.
Let's unpack what we know for now. https://t.co/YKrgymiCDB
That's a good point actually.

2/4
— Psycheout - Aleksander | Axie Infinity (@Psycheout86) March 30, 2022
This was a social engineering attack combined with a human error from December 2021. @SkyMavisHQ tech is solid and we will be adding several new validators to @Ronin_Network shortly to further decentralize the network.
The https://t.co/Q8rJgG8ZiF leaderboard has a new number one.
— rekt (@RektHQ) March 29, 2022
~$624M stolen from @Ronin_Network, but it took 6 days before anyone noticed.
Will the attacker try to launder the loot?
rekt investigates.https://t.co/WvduS1NTSe
4. How to play Aavegotchi with both security and a hot wallet
Introducing Gotchi Lending!
1/ Hardware wallets are great, but the #Gotchiverse requires you to sign every time you enter the game, which can be pretty inconvenient.
— coderdan.eth | aavegotchi 👻💊 💜 (@coderdannn) March 30, 2022
But is the only alternative to transfer your Gotchi to a hot wallet and play with it there?
Well, it used to be. But not anymore… 👀 pic.twitter.com/atJajdRiWO
Marc gets it!
my gotchi is equipped with ~0.5M$ of items and the rental cost is 2$ for 8h lmao.
— Marc -V3 is here!- Zeller (@lemiscate) April 1, 2022
that's a cheap price for this kind of flex. pic.twitter.com/vI4vtNb2ZP
5. The EU Parliament voted in favour of the regulation of "unhosted" wallets
New week, new vote...
In our coverage, we bring you two interesting threads by Patrick Hansen.
Here is everything you need to know about the state of play on the EU vote on "unhosted" wallets & next steps.
— Patrick Hansen (@paddi_hansen) March 30, 2022
Important correction
-vote on the amendments will be around 1:45-2:45pm
-vote on the entire regulation draft around 5-6pm CET
Shortly after, I will let you know. https://t.co/ecfxI9UQV9
2/ Very thin margins.
— Patrick Hansen (@paddi_hansen) March 31, 2022
Compromise D: 58 yes | 52 no | 7 abstentions
Compromise E: 62|51|5
It seems like a majority of (most) MEPs from S&D, GUE, Greens & Renew voted in favor, while a minority of (most) MEPs from EPP & ID voted against. ECR seems more split (tbd).
6. Why work in Web3, by The DeFi Edge
Interested in working in Web3? Here's a thread to read.
Why Work in Web 3?
— The DeFi Edge 🌭 (@thedefiedge) March 30, 2022
• They pay well. Crypto companies are flush with venture capitalist funds & are on a hiring spree.
• Flexibility. Many of them let you work from home.
• It's the Future. You get a front-row seat to a skyrocketing industry. 🚀
7. Verse : The Hyperexchange protocol
How do you call a hyperstructure enabling the autonomous exchange of digital objects and creating a composable, infinite internet?
The Verse protocol enables every digital object to have an embedded, autonomous exchange. Structurally, this means that every ERC-721 NFT created through Verse is natively backed by an underlying ERC-20 market.
Over the past few months I've become obsessed with the concept of NFTs as digital objects, and how this idea/framework necessitates a whole new paradigm for how internet-native objects are exchanged.

8. The story of Dune Analytics
3 years, 16 employees, 1 unicorn. Know to know how? Here's the story

Pre-seed
— hagaetc.eth (@hagaetc) March 30, 2022
Raised March 2019
Round size: $250 000
Fundraising time: 7 months
Team size: 2 founders
Absolutely brutal. No salary for 7 months. A ton of investor no's, even with paying customers. "Crypto market is too small, crypto data too open" they would say.
9. Captcha Bot was NOT hacked

(Please take this seriously, this isn't an April fools prank. We are simply the best verification bot there is and it's ridiculous that people can't read and see that the websites they're visiting aren't ours)
— Captcha.bot (@DiscordCaptcha) April 1, 2022
10. The Guide to Transition to Web3 for Non-Technical Roles
Combined with the Defi Edge thread and you're on track to become a beast!
I recently embarked on a similar career shift myself, pivoting from the education space into web3.
— alli (@sonofalli) March 31, 2022
While it was daunting, there were certain resources and tips that helped me along the way– many of them are included in this guide!
That's all, folks! Have a great week!
